Most first-time packing lists for Umrah are longer than they need to be. Here's what actually matters.
Ihram (for men)
Bring at least two sets of unstitched white cloth, not one — you'll want a change, especially on a longer trip. A simple waist pouch to hold your phone and a few essentials while you're in ihram is more useful than it sounds.
Clothing (for women)
Modest, loose clothing in any colour — there's no required uniform. Breathable fabric matters more than anything else, since Makkah and Madinah run warm even outside summer.
Footwear
Comfortable, easy-to-remove sandals are the single most useful item you'll pack. You'll be walking a lot, and removing shoes often at entry points, so anything with laces becomes a hassle fast.
What to carry into the Haram
Keep it light: phone, a small amount of cash, a few dates. Bags get checked at entry points, and a smaller bag moves through security faster than a full one.
What you can leave at home
Heavy toiletry kits, multiple changes of "nice" clothes, and anything you're bringing "just in case" — Makkah and Madinah have shops for almost everything, so it's rarely worth the extra luggage weight.
